The Drunken Monkey is one of those typical unique coffee shops with an awkward outdated website, that doesn’t have enough parking next to a cheesy diner and a hipster bookstore in downtown Orlando. It is one of those places that serves fair trade coffee that tastes like home in ceramic mugs that were found at Goodwill. It’s a coffee shop that offers free wifi and has the products of local unknown artists randomly hung on its walls that desperately need paint jobs. It has sandwiches and mugs of soup and “stuff-free” pastries. It is a place near and dear to my heart because of its kombucha on tap. The people that work there are friendly and yet so much cooler than me with their tattoos and latte knowledge. I love the people that sit on the crooked wooden chairs and the ratty sofas: the internet professionals, the procrastinating students, the awkward first dates, the poetry readers and the wannabe authors. It is a place that feels like a home away from home, a place that makes doing homework and writing lesson plans enjoyable.
Really though, I just go for the kombucha.
