Villa de Leyva

This post is going to be short, because I need to prepare a presentation on common pronunciation errors.

Yesterday, I went with my roommate and a fellow Fulbrighter (my Tunja buddy) to Villa de Leyva which is a small town about 45 minutes from Tunja.

We took a bus from Tunja to Villa de Leyva for $6,500 COP. This trip took twice as long as it was supposed to due to construction and poor traffic control, but we eventually arrived at our destination.

Villa de Leyva is a beautiful town that looks like an old Spanish town. The streets are cobblestone, the houses are freshly painted and there are flowers everywhere. The only disadvantage is that the entire town thrives on tourism and in many ways simply caters to foreigners.

We spent the day wandering and found an open air market, a museum related to the monastery in Villa de Leyva, and a small road that we hiked up.
